Welcome to Eh to UK!
Hello world!
Welcome to Eh to UK: Charting a Course from Canada to England. I am thrilled to embark on this journey with you. This blog will serve as a platform to document and share my experience as I navigate the exciting (and slow) transition from Canada to the UK.
About me:
Before we dive into the adventures ahead, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Leslie, and I currently reside in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with my British expat wife (Laura), a large Bernese x St. Bernard (Arlo), and a runty, rascally kitten (Maggie). I have lived in the city for 15 years, but Laura joined me here 6 years ago. From the moment I first discovered the Harry Potter books (embarrassing but honest), I have always wanted to move to England. We had intended to move several times in the course our relationship, but for various reasons (which I'll discuss later in a different post) we never had. This year, we decided to get really serious about our plans, and we decided that in 5 years time, we would finally take the plunge.
Purpose of the Blog:
This blog isn't just about my personal journey; it's also a space where I hope to provide valuable insights, tips, and resources for anyone considering a similar move or curious about expat life in the UK (once we finally make it there). Whether you're dreaming of relocating abroad, planning your own move, or simply interested in following along, I invite you to join me on this adventure.
What to Expect:
In the coming posts, you can expect to find a mix of personal anecdotes, practical advice, cultural observations, and perhaps even a few humorous mishaps along the way. 5 years is a long time away, but we have a series of goals that must be met before we can make the move, so I will be keeping a running tally of those throughout (stay tuned for that!). This will truly be a journey from the very beginning to beyond. From working through the logistics to financials and career shifts, to navigating the visa process, to discovering hidden gems in my new hometown, I'll be sharing it all right here.
Connect with Me:
I'd love to hear from you! Whether you have questions, suggestions, or just want to say hello, feel free to reach out right here in the comments section, or email me at ehtouk@gmail.com. Your feedback and engagement would mean the world to me, and I can't wait to connect with fellow adventurers and expats.
Conclusion:
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Whether you're an expat, a curious traveller, or simply a friend stopping by, I'm grateful to have you along for the ride. Here's to new beginnings, exciting discoveries, and the endless possibilities that await us in the UK!
